Erasmus+ bate récords en 2025: claves para certificar el inglés y no quedarse atrás.

Acreditar el nivel de inglés es el primer paso para aprovechar al máximo Erasmus+.

El programa de educación, formación y movilidad europea, Erasmus+, sigue siendo una de las experiencias más enriquecedoras para miles de jóvenes cada año.

Según los últimos datos publicados por la Comisión Europea1, en 2024 más de 118.000 estudiantes españoles participaron en el programa Erasmus+ y para 2025, se estima que esta cifra aumente en más del 30 %. Con la apertura de convocatorias, son muchos los jóvenes que comienzan a preparar su candidatura para acceder a esta experiencia internacional.

Dominar una lengua extranjera como el inglés constituye un requisito indispensable, especialmente si el destino elegido corresponde a un país angloparlante como Irlanda o Malta, o en el que se imparten programas académicos en esta lengua, como España, Países Bajos, Suecia o Alemania.

Por ello, el British Council, la organización del Reino Unido para las relaciones culturales y las oportunidades educativas, ha preparado una serie de orientaciones útiles para quienes necesiten acreditar su nivel de inglés de cara a la candidatura Erasmus+.

¿Por dónde empezar?

Uno de los primeros pasos consiste en consultar los requisitos lingüísticos establecidos por la universidad de destino. Por lo general, se expresan según el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCER), y suelen pedir un nivel B1 o B2. La información sobre los certificados reconocidos está disponible en la web de la universidad de origen, con los títulos admitidos por las universidades españolas. Por otro lado, los estudiantes deben consultar también, de manera independiente, los requerimientos de las universidades de destino.

En el caso de Cataluña, también se aceptan certificados autorizados por la Generalitat. Es importante consultar esta información con tiempo para asegurar que el examen elegido sea válido.

¿Qué examen elegir?

No todos los certificados lingüísticos funcionan del mismo modo. Por ello, es necesario comprender qué tipo de prueba se adapta mejor a los requisitos de la universidad de destino y a las necesidades del estudiante.

Existen dos grandes categorías de certificaciones. Por un lado, están los exámenes que evalúan un nivel concreto y requieren alcanzar una puntuación mínima para obtener el certificado correspondiente. Entre ellos se encuentran pruebas como Cambridge First o Advanced o Trinity.

Su estructura es clara: se aprueban o se suspenden. Por otro lado, existen los llamados exámenes multinivel, como IELTS, TOEFL o Aptis ESOL. En este caso, no se aprueba ni se suspende: la prueba mide el nivel real del candidato en función de su desempeño y otorga una certificación que refleja el dominio alcanzado.

La elección entre una opción u otra dependerá de varios factores: los certificados admitidos por la universidad de destino, el nivel exigido, la confianza del estudiante en alcanzar un determinado resultado, y los planes académicos o profesionales a medio y largo plazo.

Mientras que algunas universidades de destino tienen una lista de certificados aceptados para Erasmus, como IELTS, TOEFL o Cambridge, que cuentan con un reconocimiento internacional amplio — especialmente útil para quienes proyectan estudiar o trabajar fuera de España—, otras universidades no requieren unos certificados específicos y admiten cualquier certificado válido en el país de origen, como Aptis ESOL o los exámenes de la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, que son más accesibles y ampliamente reconocidos a nivel nacional. 

Seminarios gratuitos para estudiantes y profesores

Con el objetivo de acompañar tanto a estudiantes como a docentes en este proceso, el British Council ha organizado dos seminarios web gratuitos .El primero está dirigido a estudiantes que quieran solicitar una beca Erasmus+ y necesitan certificar su nivel de inglés. En esta sesión, expertos del British Council ofrecerán consejos prácticos para mejorar el rendimiento en las pruebas, compartirán recursos oficiales gratuitos para la preparación y resolverán dudas en directo.

El segundo semanario está enfocado para docentes de inglés de bachillerato y universidad que deseen orientar a su alumnado en el proceso de certificación lingüística. Se abordarán aspectos clave sobre el funcionamiento de los exámenes multinivel, estrategias de preparación y materiales de apoyo, con espacio también para la resolución de preguntas.

Estas iniciativas buscan ofrecer una orientación clara y útil a quienes se preparan para aprovechar una de las oportunidades de movilidad académica más relevantes en Europa, garantizando que el idioma no sea una barrera, sino una puerta abierta a nuevas experiencias.
