● El convenio, firmado por Claudia Tecglen y el presidente de HM Hospitales, Dr. Juan Abarca Cidón, busca fomentar el desarrollo de proyectos para aplicar de forma inmediata los últimos avances científicos en la práctica clínica.
● El primer programa piloto se realizará en HM Hospitales.
Madrid, 28 de enero de 2024. En 2023, 4.116 personas se suicidaron en España, una media de 11 al día según la Estadística de Defunciones difundida por el INE. Unas escalofriantes estadísticas en las que no aparecen las personas con discapacidad. De acuerdo con el informe ‘El suicido en las personas con discapacidad en España’, elaborado en 2021 por el Observatorio Estatal de la Discapacidad, la tasa de riesgo de suicidio entre las personas con discapacidad fue 1,9 superior en comparación con las personas sin discapacidad, siendo mayores en los casos de discapacidad por trastorno mental, insuficiencia renal, lesión cerebral y discapacidad física.
Los profesionales de la salud insisten en la importancia de que las investigaciones y las cifras oficiales incorporen esta realidad para concienciar a la sociedad, así como destacar la necesidad de brindar a este colectivo una atención y cuidados que se ajusten a sus necesidades.
Conscientes de este hecho, Fundación Claudia Tecglen, la asociación Convives con Espasticidad, HM Hospitales y Fundación de Investigación HM Hospitales han unido fuerzas y firmado un acuerdo de colaboración para implementar un plan de desarrollo de proyectos cuya primera medida es la puesta en marcha de la primera Red Intercomunitaria contra el Suicidio en Personas con Discapacidad y sus Familias. Su objetivo es formar a los profesionales sanitarios en la detección del suicidio en personas con discapacidad y sus familias con formaciones intensivas y eminentemente prácticas. Este proyecto piloto comenzará en HM Hospitales, concretamente en el Hospital Universitario HM Puerta del Sur de Móstoles, ya que en este centro se ubica buena parte de los esfuerzos del Grupo por ofrecer servicios de salud mental y tanto las personas con discapacidad como sus familias pasan mucho tiempo en sus instalaciones.
Esta alianza establece un marco de cooperación, a través de programas que serán diseñados y ejecutados de manera conjunta con el objetivo de enseñar a las profesionales herramientas para la detección del suicidio en personas con discapacidad, de manera que estos lleven a cabo los protocolos necesarios para derivar a los enfermos a los profesionales adecuados para tratarlos. Con esta iniciativa, se espera prevenir el riesgo de suicidio en las personas con y sus familias, gracias a la detección precoz.
La Dra. Virginia Soler, directora médica de HM Hospitales, destacó que “el suicidio en personas con discapacidad es un problema de salud pública donde influyen factores como la soledad y las barreras sociales. Este curso piloto busca concienciar y formar a profesionales de la salud, sentando las bases para prevenir el suicidio y atender las necesidades específicas de esta población”.
El primer paso de un largo y necesario camino
Este primer programa piloto es el pilar de esta red cuyo objetivo es tener presencia en toda España.
El primer año, se espera formar a 125 profesionales sanitarios y se pretende alcanzar 4 hospitales de referencia en atención a la discapacidad (adicionales al piloto), con un impacto potencial de cobertura del 40% de pacientes con discapacidad y sus familias.
Para Darío Fernández, coordinador adjunto de la iniciativa, “con este programa abordamos la primera y fundamental medida para prevenir el suicido: el diagnóstico temprano. El profesional de la salud encontrará e integrará estrategias para hacerlo en el quehacer de su consulta diaria”.
Dos entidades comprometidas con la discapacidad y la salud mental
Con este proyecto, tanto Claudia Tecglen, psicóloga y Premio Princesa de Girona 2022 en la categoría Social, como HM Hospitales, reafirman su compromiso con la formación, la investigación y la divulgación como pilares fundamentales para transformar el ámbito sanitario y mejorar la calidad de vida de un colectivo que precisa unas necesidades de atención personalizada y específica.
“Las personas con discapacidad y nuestras familias enfrentamos, día a día, la soledad, el dolor, el desempleo y la pobreza. La discapacidad es un factor de riesgo para el suicidio y merece una especial atención. En los profesionales sanitarios con la formación adecuada encontraremos los mejores aliados frente a la desesperación y la desesperanza”, señala Claudia Tecglen, presidenta de la Fundación homónima.
Por su parte, el Dr. Juan Abarca Cidón, presidente de HM Hospitales, explica que “HM Hospitales quiere comprometerse con revertir las tasas de suicidio entre el colectivo de personas con discapacidad, sus familias y sus cuidadores y la mejor manera de hacerlo es mediante la formación de nuestros profesionales sanitarios. Para ello, no podemos contar con mejores compañeros de viaje que la asociación Convives con Espasticidad y la Fundación Claudia Tecglen”.
