 El empresario, que fundó Netflix en 1997 y ejerció como CEO durante seis años, ha sido el gran protagonista de la tarde de la segunda jornada del encuentro, que celebra su decimocuarta edición hasta mañana viernes.

 Randolph ha destacado que “el mayor logro de Netflix fue entender que no se trata de tener buenas ideas, sino de construir una cultura corporativa que nos permitía probarlas todas, incluso las malas. Cuantas más pruebas fallidas hagas, más rápido y barato innovas”.

 Bajo el lema ‘In Motion’, el encuentro co-organizado por IE University reúne esta semana en Madrid a más de 600 ponentes, 150 inversores y 19 unicornios para impulsar la innovación a gran escala con foco en el crecimiento, siempre priorizando a las personas y al planeta, y con las tecnologías más punteras como grandes aliadas.

 El encuentro continúa mañana con el anuncio de la ganadora global de la Startup Competition y la clausura oficial de la decimocuarta edición, que contará con la participación destacada de Enrico Letta, ex primer ministro de Italia.

Madrid, 5 de junio de 2025- South Summit Madrid 2025, el encuentro de referencia para el ecosistema de la innovación y el emprendimiento a nivel mundial, co-organizado con IE University, ha contado en la tarde de su segunda jornada con la participación destacada de Marc Randolph, cofundador de Netflix.

Randolph es uno los ejecutivos y emprendedores más veteranos y respetados de Silicon Valley al ser el cofundador, en 1997, del servicio de streaming de películas y series Netflix. Durante seis años, Marc Randolph ejerció como CEO de la plataforma, donde desempeñó un papel fundamental en su transformación desde una pequeña compañía de alquiler de DVD por correo hasta convertirse en el principal servicio de streaming a nivel mundial, con más de 300 millones de suscriptores.

En su intervención, ha destacado que “para emprender no hace falta una buena idea, sino cientos de ideas malas. El mayor logro de Netflix fue entender que no se trata de tener buenas ideas, sino de construir una cultura corporativa que nos permitía probarlas todas, incluso las malas. Cuantas más pruebas fallidas hagas, más rápido y barato innovas”.

En la conversación que ha mantenido con Diego del Alcázar, CEO de IE University, Randolph también ha apuntado que desde que dejó la compañía ha fundado 7 empresas más, algunas con más éxito que otras: “Si me hubieras preguntado desde el primer día cuál funcionaría, no habría sabido decirlo. Nadie sabe nada. Por eso, la única opción es hacer algo, probar, construir. Aprendes más en una hora haciendo que en seis meses planeando”.

Cleantech: invertir con impacto, escalar con rentabilidad

Otro de los platos fuertes de la tarde ha sido la sesión ‘Cleantech Funding: It’s Not Just About Money’, en la que Nicolas Sauvage, presidente de TDK Ventures, e Irene Gálvez, responsable de la división de capital para tecnologías limpias del Banco Europeo de Inversiones (BEI) han coincidido en una perspectiva común: sin escalabilidad y sostenibilidad financiera, no hay impacto real.

En ese sentido, Sauvage ha compartido su experiencia invirtiendo en startups industriales en fases muy tempranas, destacando que el éxito de un proyecto verde depende de su capacidad para construir modelos económicos sólidos desde el inicio. “Sin buenos modelos de negocio, no hay primera fábrica, ni segunda, ni crecimiento. No se trata de hacer el bien o ganar dinero, sino de ser capaz de hacer ambas”, ha destacado.

Por su parte, Irene Gálvez ha explicado cómo el BEI busca precisamente facilitar ese camino hacia la escala: “Ante la creciente urgencia climática, el apoyo a las startups de cleantech es más crucial que nunca. El BEI impulsa iniciativas como TechEU para facilitar su crecimiento en Europa sin depender de mercados externos. Además de financiación, ofrece procesos ágiles, asesoramiento técnico y una ventanilla única para innovadores climáticos”.

Crecimiento inteligente: la clave del éxito en el ecosistema latinoamericano

La sesión ‘Scaling Smarter: Navigating Growth in Latin America’s Startup Ecosystem’ ha reunido en el escenario principal a Pedro Conrade, fundador del unicornio brasileño Neon, y a Santiago Muguruza, Head de BBVA Spark, para hablar del reto de escalar una startup en América Latina. Un mercado con desafíos estructurales, pero también con un potencial enorme: solo en 2023 se invirtieron más de 4.500 millones de dólares en startups de la región.

“Si hubiera sabido lo difícil que era montar un banco, quizás no lo habría hecho”, ha bromeado Pedro Conrade al recordar cómo fundó Neon con solo 23 años. La idea nació de la frustración con el sistema financiero tradicional: “Era carísimo para el usuario y pobre para las empresas. Así surgió la idea de una tarjeta conectada a una app. Hoy, Neon cuenta con más de 15 millones de clientes y una oferta integral de servicios financieros”.

Desde el otro lado de la mesa, Santiago Muguruza ha afirmado que “los bancos tradicionalmente miran al pasado. Nosotros miramos al futuro y vimos que la innovación ya no era exclusiva de Silicon Valley. Así nació BBVA Spark, para ofrecer financiación a startups en diferentes etapas, sin importar el mercado”.
