La fabricación farmacéutica en España aumenta un 37% su número de trabajadores desde la pandemia.
- El aumento en los seis primeros meses de este año se ha disparado un 4%, hasta alcanzar los 113.000 empleados.
- La ocupación femenina predomina ligeramente, con un 52% del total, seis puntos por encima de la media del mercado laboral.
- El problema del reemplazo generacional no se refleja aún en farma, ya que el 56% del empleo corresponde a personas menores de 45 años.
El empleo en el sector farmacéutico en España sigue al alza tras registrar un aumento del 4% en los seis primeros meses del año, hasta casi los 113.000 empleados. Respecto a 2019, el año antes de la pandemia, ha registrado un alza del 37%. Así lo revela el último informe Mercado de trabajo en el sector de la industria farmacéutica, elaborado por Randstad Research, el centro de estudios de Randstad, la empresa de talento número uno en España y el mundo.
La fabricación del sector farma se compone de dos divisiones: la de Fabricación de productos farmacéuticos de base y el de Fabricación de especialidades farmacéuticas, que representan un 34% y un 66% del mercado, respectivamente, según un análisis basado en datos del INE, el SEPE y la Seguridad Social.
La ocupación femenina predomina ligeramente, con un 52% del total, con cerca de 59.000 mujeres. La cifra es superior al promedio de la economía española, donde ocupan el 46,7% de los puestos. En contraste, 54.000 ocupados del sector son hombres.
En el segundo trimestre de 2025, el peso del empleo masculino en la industria aumentó con un alza interanual del 5,5%, mientras que el femenino se desplomó un 8,5%.
“La industria farmacéutica ha experimentado un crecimiento destacado en número de trabajadores durante los últimos años, lo que demuestra su capacidad de generar trabajo estable incluso en entornos económicos inciertos”, asegura Begoña Izquierdo, responsable del sector farma de Randstad Professional.
Por secciones, la ocupación más mayoritaria es la de técnicos y profesionales científicos y de apoyo, con 68.000 trabajadores, el 60% del total. A considerable distancia, con el 11%, se encuentran los directores y gerentes, seguidos por los operadores de maquinaria y los administrativos, con el equivalente al 9% cada uno. El resto de las ocupaciones suman el 11% del empleo restante.
Entre las ocupaciones más relevantes, destaca la de Técnicos de las ciencias físicas, químicas, medioambientales y de las ingenierías, con el 10%; seguidos por los Profesionales de ventas técnicas y médicas con un 7,7% y los Operadores de instalaciones y máquinas de productos químicos y farmacéuticos con el 6,4%.
Una distribución por edad equilibrada
El problema del reemplazo generacional que achaca una parte importante de la economía española aún no se ve reflejado en el sector farma, que cuenta con una distribución por edad equilibrada.
El 56% del empleo corresponde a personas menores de 45 años. En comparación, el grupo de 45 a 54 años representa el 29% de los ocupados, mientras que los mayores de 55 años constituyen solamente el 15%. Además, el grupo de 25 a 34 años muestra la mayor tendencia de crecimiento en los últimos trimestres, y en los últimos tres meses aumentaron un 7,5% su número de ocupados.
El 90% se concentra en ocupados españoles
La evolución del empleo por nacionalidad en el sector farma refleja un predominio total de los ocupados españoles, que suman el 90% del total, con 102.000 empleados. Los extranjeros fueron solamente 8.000 personas, el 7%, y el restante 3% son trabajadores con doble nacionalidad.
Además, en el segundo trimestre de 2025, la industria registró un crecimiento interanual del 1,4% en los ocupados españoles, mientras que los extranjeros presentaron un decrecimiento del 3%.
Cataluña, líder absoluta
El sector presenta una significativa concentración geográfica del empleo, con Cataluña a la cabeza con 48.133 ocupados, seguida por Madrid con 29.446 y Castilla y León con 6.697, que representan un 45%, un 28% y un 6%, respectivamente.
La industria farmacéutica representa el 1,2% del trabajo en Cataluña y el 0,9% en Madrid. En el resto de las comunidades autónomas su peso oscila entre el 0,1% y el 0,6% y, en el conjunto de España, copa el 0,5% del empleo total.
