El 54% de los trabajadores de la industria química en España supera los 45 años.
El empleo entre los 25 y 34 años se desploma un 25,4% en los últimos tres meses y acentúa la crisis de relevo generacional del sector.
- Los hombres representan el 63% del empleo en este campo, diez puntos por encima de la media nacional.
- Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, Andalucía y Madrid concentran el 71% de los trabajadores totales en España.
El empleo en el sector químico en España registró un repunte trimestral de 4.000 personas en el segundo trimestre de 2025, hasta los 126.822 ocupados. Sin embargo, la cifra es un 6,9% más baja que la del mismo periodo del año anterior. Así lo revela el último informe Mercado de trabajo en el sector de la industria química, elaborado por Randstad Research, el centro de estudios de Randstad, la empresa de talento número uno en España y el mundo.
La química es una ocupación eminentemente masculina. Los hombres concentran el 63% de las plantillas, una tasa diez puntos porcentuales por encima de la media nacional. Sin embargo, en los últimos trimestres la brecha se ha reducido debido a un crecimiento sostenido del empleo femenimo, mientras que el masculino presenta una tendencia ligeramente decreciente.
“Es crucial y urgente implementar políticas activas para atraer y fidelizar talento femenino y joven si el sector químico quiere garantizar la competitividad y el conocimiento a futuro”, asegura Valentín Bote, director de Randstad Research.
El reto del reemplazo generacional
El sector presenta una distribución por edad equilibrada, aunque con tendencia hacia el envejecimiento, como muchos otros mercados de la economía española. En el segundo trimestre de 2025, el grupo predominante fue el de 45 a 54 años (31%), seguido por los de 35 a 44 años (24%) y los mayores de 55 años (23%), mientras que los menores de 25 años solo representaron el 5%.
Las cifras más preocupantes indican que solo el grupo de 45 a 54 años creció en los últimos tres meses, con un aumento del 2,7%. En contraste, los ocupados entre 25 y 34 años se desplomaron un 25,4%, y los de entre 35 y 44 años decrecieron un 8,1%.
El 90% se concentra en ocupados españoles
La evolución del empleo por nacionalidad en el sector indica un predominio absoluto de los ocupados españoles, que suman el 90% del total, con 114.000 trabajadores. Los extranjeros fueron solamente 10.600 personas, el 10%.
Además, en el segundo trimestre de 2025, los ocupados extranjeros presentaron una caída interanual del 28,9%, mientras que los españoles crecieron ligeramente un 0,9%.
Cataluña, en cabeza con casi un tercio de la ocupación
Cataluña lidera la industria química, con casi un tercio de los ocupados, el 32,6%. Le siguen la Comunidad Valenciana, con el 18,4%; Andalucía, con el 10,4%, y la Comunidad de Madrid, con el 10,3%. El resto de las comunidades autónomas representan, cada una, menos del 5% del total. En total, estas cuatro comunidades copan el 71,7% de los trabajadores en el sector.
La industria química representa el 1,1% del empleo en Cataluña, el 1% en la Comunidad Valenciana, y el 0,4% tanto en Madrid como en Andalucía. En el conjunto de España, el porcentaje es del 0,6%.
