En un mes como noviembre, que reúne múltiples jornadas internacionales dedicadas a la salud y la concienciación sobre enfermedades crónicas y graves, la Asociación Española de Directores de Recursos Humanos (AEDRH) a través de su comunidad de Salud y Bienestar, presenta el Protocolos de Actuación en las Empresas para Enfermedades Crónicas (Cáncer y Otros). Se trata de un documento pionero que busca dotar a las organizaciones de una herramienta práctica, flexible y humana para acompañar a los empleados que atraviesan una enfermedad de larga duración o que afecta a su capacidad funcional.

Este protocolo, elaborado por la Comunidad de Salud y Bienestar AEDRH con la colaboración de expertos en salud laboral, bienestar organizacional y gestión del talento, nace con un propósito claro: situar el cuidado de las personas en el centro de la estrategia empresarial y promover una cultura de empatía, corresponsabilidad y respeto.

“Las organizaciones no pueden limitarse a gestionar el rendimiento: deben cuidar, comprender y acompañar. La salud de las personas forma parte de la sostenibilidad de cualquier empresa”, subraya AEDRH.

Una guía integral para empresas comprometidas con el bienestar

El documento establece un marco general de actuación ante situaciones de enfermedad crónica o grave —como la diabetes, el cáncer, la esclerosis múltiple o patologías cardíacas—, garantizando la confidencialidad, la equidad y el respeto en todo momento.

El protocolo se estructura en tres fases:

  1. Comunicación y valoración inicial – Cuando el empleado decide compartir su diagnóstico, la empresa activa el protocolo de forma confidencial, definiendo los recursos de apoyo y los escenarios posibles.
  2. Acompañamiento durante la baja o tratamiento – Se promueve un seguimiento activo y respetuoso, evitando la desvinculación emocional y manteniendo la conexión con el equipo.
  3. Reincorporación y adaptación – Se diseña un plan personalizado para facilitar el retorno al trabajo, valorando adaptaciones, flexibilidad o incluso reubicaciones si fueran necesarias.

Además, el protocolo contempla medidas para familiares o cuidadores que desempeñan un rol esencial de apoyo, ofreciendo opciones de flexibilidad horaria, teletrabajo o permisos excepcionales.

Recursos Humanos, eje del acompañamiento

La Comunidad de Salud y Bienestar AEDRH destaca el papel clave de los departamentos de Recursos Humanos como garantes de la confidencialidad, el acompañamiento emocional y la coordinación interdepartamental.

El protocolo define claramente los roles y responsabilidades de cada actor implicado —alta dirección, managers, servicio médico, PRL, y proveedores externos— y pone especial énfasis en la formación de mandos intermedios, quienes son la primera línea de apoyo para los empleados en situación de vulnerabilidad.

Asimismo, se fomenta la creación de comités de seguimiento y asesoramiento que velen por la correcta aplicación del protocolo y por la mejora continua de las medidas de bienestar en las organizaciones.

Una apuesta por la cultura del cuidado

AEDRH subraya que cada vez más empresas se enfrentan al reto de acompañar a profesionales que conviven con enfermedades crónicas o graves. La implantación de protocolos como este no solo mejora la calidad de vida de los trabajadores, sino que fortalece la cohesión, reduce el absentismo y mejora el clima laboral.

“Este protocolo no es solo una medida de salud laboral, es una declaración de principios. Significa reconocer que detrás de cada profesional hay una persona, y que cuidarla también es parte del trabajo”, afirma AEDRH.

En esta presentación, distintas expertas del ámbito sanitario, asociativo y de los Recursos Humanos han querido subrayar la relevancia de este nuevo protocolo y el impacto que puede tener en la vida laboral y personal de miles de profesionales. Sus testimonios ponen de manifiesto la necesidad de contar con una guía clara, transversal y alineada con la cultura del cuidado dentro de las organizaciones.

Daniela Silva Silva, E-health Medical Manager en Cigma Healthcare España, ha destacado que “más de la mitad de los adultos españoles tienen una enfermedad crónica” y que, precisamente por ello, “este protocolo era necesario”. Ha subrayado que su implantación es “una ganancia para las empresas, porque permite trabajar en políticas de responsabilidad corporativa: va a ser un win-win”.

Raquel Sualdea Rincón, Health Solutions de AON, agregó que “Este protocolo es una guía que tenía que existir. Con ella, damos a los empleados la confianza de poder comunicar su situación y ponemos también el foco en cuidar la salud mental»

Sonia Jadraque, fundadora de IM-PACIENTE y una de las impulsoras del protocolo, ha recordado que “esto va de establecer políticas para toda la empresa: no se puede depender de que el manager de turno sea empático”. Ha incidido en que debe ser “una decisión de compañía, no solo de Recursos Humanos”, y que “cuando hablamos de diversidad y equidad, la única forma de conseguirlo es con una guía consensuada”.

Por su parte, Ágata Sanz, directora de Personal en GB Corporation y miembro de AEDRH, ha afirmado que “es fundamental que los valores de la compañía hagan sentir cobijado al empleado para que pueda comunicar su situación”. En este sentido, ha destacado que “con este protocolo gana la empresa y gana el empleado”.
