Madrid, 11 de noviembre de 2025. ARQUIMEA, compañía tecnológica del sector espacial, nombra a Antonio Abad como nuevo Director General de CanarySat Satellite Services, la empresa del Grupo responsable de la ejecución del programa de la constelación de satélites LEO con la que ARQUIMEA planea cambiar el paradigma de las comunicaciones seguras por satélite.

Con más de 30 años de experiencia en la industria aeroespacial, Antonio Abad es una de las figuras más reconocidas entre los operadores de comunicaciones satelitales.  Director técnico de Hispasat durante décadas, su perfil técnico y visión estratégica le han llevado a liderar el lanzamiento de once satélites GEO y ha dirigido proyectos estratégicos para España y Europa, como la primera misión mundial en órbita GEO de distribución de claves cuánticas (GEO-QKD), la participación de Hispasat en el consorcio SpaceRise para el desarrollo de la constelación europea IRIS2, y el desarrollo del primer operador de comunicaciones lunares europeo a través del programa Moonlight. Asimismo, Antonio es miembro de la International Academy of Astronautics, Academie de l’Air et de l’Espace, Associate Fellow del American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics y Senior Member del Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers, así como colaborador habitual de la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) y la Agencia Espacial Española (AEE), entre otras.

“Es un honor asumir la dirección de un proyecto con un potencial transformador tan grande”, ha declarado Antonio. “Las constelaciones satelitales LEO representan el futuro del espacio y mi objetivo es poner al servicio de esta misión toda la experiencia y conocimiento acumulados durante más de tres décadas en el sector”.

En esta nueva etapa, Antonio Abad liderará la puesta en marcha de las infraestructuras y equipo que construirá y operará la futura constelación. El primer objetivo será lanzar dos satélites en 2027, que realizarán una prueba de concepto del servicio con los principales clientes.

CanarySat liderará la futura constelación de satélites LEO (Low Earth Orbit) de comunicaciones en banda Ka impulsada por ARQUIMEA para ofrecer servicios de conectividad global, segura y de baja latencia. El programa busca reforzar la posición de España y de Europa en el ámbito de las operaciones satelitales. Desde su nueva posición, Antonio Abad liderará un equipo multidisciplinar de ingenieros, técnicos y gestores con el objetivo de convertir CanarySat en una empresa de referencia entre los operadores satelitales. El nombramiento se produce en un momento decisivo para el proyecto, que se encuentra en plena fase de ampliación de la inversión.
