Adigital,la Asociación Española de la Economía Digital, ha presentado el primer white paper sobre medición y gestión de emisiones de CO₂ en la economía digital, un documento que adapta los principales estándares internacionales de contabilidad climática a la diversidad de modelos de negocio digitales, desde plataformas y marketplaces hasta pymes tecnológicas y empresas de infraestructura digital.
Esta iniciativa, presentada durante la celebración de la COP30 responde a un contexto en el que la economía digital se sitúa en el centro de las ‘twin transitions’: la tecnológica y la ecológica. Medir y gestionar la huella de carbono digital con metodologías robustas se ha convertido en un requisito clave de competitividad, cumplimiento normativo y reputación empresarial en Europa.
“La digitalización es una palanca clave para la descarbonización, pero también genera nuevas externalidades que debemos anticipar y gestionar”, explica Justo Hidalgo, director de Inteligencia Artificial de Adigital. “Los centros de datos ya representan cerca del 1,5 % del consumo eléctrico mundial y podrían duplicarse para 2030, alcanzando el equivalente al consumo de todo Japón en la actualidad.”
En este contexto, el informe representa un paso pionero en la industria digital al establecer un nuevo modelo de gobernanza que facilita tanto el cumplimiento regulatorio como la toma de decisiones empresariales basadas en datos. Para ello, Adigital ha contado con la colaboración de instituciones como Pacto Mundial y Green Web Foundation junto a diversas empresas digitales como Amadeus, Cabify, Filmin, Ikea, Glovo, Milanuncios, Paack, Tekman, Trainline, Veepee y Wallapop para su elaboración.
El white paper propone un enfoque metodológico propio para la economía digital que integra tanto las emisiones generadas (directas e indirectas) como las emisiones evitadas gracias a la digitalización o al uso de inteligencia artificial. Sirve además como guía paso a paso para que cualquier empresa digital —independientemente de su tamaño o madurez— pueda medir, gestionar y comunicar su impacto climático con rigor.
Entre sus principales aportaciones destacan:
- Una clasificación inédita de los tipos de emisiones más relevantes para el ecosistema digital, desde el consumo energético de centros de datos hasta el procesamiento de modelos de IA o la logística asociada al comercio electrónico.

- Un conjunto de indicadores prácticos y herramientas operativas que permiten a pymes, scaleups y corporaciones medir, gestionar y reducir sus emisiones.
- Casos de buenas prácticas de empresas españolas del ecosistema que ya aplican estrategias avanzadas de medición, reducción o comunicación climática.

El sistema incluirá el desarrollo de una calculadora sectorial de emisiones, que automatizará el cálculo de la huella de carbono en función de las fuentes de emisiones digitales, y un sello de reconocimiento que certifica el cumplimiento del sistema por parte de las empresas participantes. De modo que, el sector pueda compartir metodologías, estandarizar indicadores, mejorar la transparencia y comparabilidad de sus datos y, en última instancia, lograr que el crecimiento de la economía digital se desacople de su impacto climático.
A través de esta iniciativa, Adigital asume un rol de liderazgo en la construcción de un marco de gobernanza climática para la economía digital española, facilitando a las empresas del país herramientas para la toma de decisiones, el cumplimiento normativo y el liderazgo público en sostenibilidad.
