El 66% de los millennials no verifica la autenticidad de sus conexiones online.
Un nuevo estudio 1 de Kaspersky pone de manifiesto la tendencia de los millennials a confiar en sus habilidades y en el entorno digital sin tomar las medidas de seguridad adecuadas. A pesar de que el 37% de los encuestados españoles afirma haber tenido experiencias negativas en Internet debido a una confianza mal depositada, un 45% sigue confiando en la información que circula en sus comunidades digitales. Además, el 14% de los encuestados ha utilizado nombres falsos o se ha hecho pasar por otra
persona en redes sociales, lo que no solo revela una desconcertante vulnerabilidad, sino que también los convierte, en parte, en actores dentro de este sistema.
El estudio de Kaspersky ha revelado una preocupante ingenuidad en el comportamiento digital de los
millennials. Como la primera generación que ha crecido con las redes sociales, los millennials se
enorgullecen de su destreza tecnológica. Según la encuesta, en España el 73% se considera el
miembro con más conocimiento digital de su hogar. Sin embargo, a pesar de esta seguridad en sí
mismos, el 66% admitió que no siempre verifican la autenticidad de sus conexiones digitales.
Este hallazgo resulta significativo si se tiene en cuenta que el 63% de los millennials ha encontrado a
alguien online que cree que ha distorsionado falsificado la realidad su verdadera identidad.
Uno de cada diez miente sobre su identidad en redes
De hecho, el estudio señala que el 14% de los millenials españoles ha utilizado en algún momento un
nombre falso, creado un perfil ficticio o fingido deliberadamente ser otra persona en las redes
sociales. Esta estadística pone de manifiesto una tendencia preocupante: el engaño de los perfiles
digitales no es solo una práctica de unos pocos usuarios deshonestos, sino que también es un
comportamiento adoptado por millennials.
“Cuando confiamos ciegamente en nuestra propia destreza digital, podemos pasar por alto la
posibilidad de que otros no sean tan genuinos como aparentan. En algunos casos, personas con
fuertes rasgos narcisistas o psicopáticos se aprovechan de esta confianza a través del catfishing y de
otras tácticas engañosas”, apunta Ruth Guest, ciberpsicóloga y fundadora del juego de seguridad en
redes sociales Sersha.
Las consecuencias de estos comportamientos son evidentes: el 37% de los millennials españoles
asegura haber tenido experiencias negativas en Internet a causa de la confianza mal depositada y el
70% afirma que ahora es menos probable que confíen y formen relaciones en la red. Lo más sorprendente es que, a pesar de todo esto, el 45% de los millennials afirma que aún confía en la
información compartida dentro de sus comunidades online.
Fortalecer la seguridad digital
“Como principales administradores digitales en los hogares de todo el mundo, les corresponde a los
propios millennials identificar y abordar la ingenuidad y confianza mal depositada de su generación. Su
papel se extiende más allá de su propio uso, influyendo en la comunidad online en general al gestionar
la vida digital de otros”, afirma Marc Rivero, Lead Security Researcher de Kaspersky.
Al tomar medidas proactivas, como verificar identidades, gestionar los datos personales y mantenerse
informados sobre las amenazas cibernéticas, “los millennials pueden mantener el control sobre su
seguridad online y reducir el riesgo de ser engañados. Los hábitos digitales que cultivan no solo
protegen su propia seguridad, sino que también sientan un precedente para las generaciones más
jóvenes y las personas menos expertas en tecnología, fomentando una cultura de vigilancia en un
panorama digital cada vez más engañoso”, añade Rivero.
A continuación, algunas recomendaciones y recursos para que los millennials, sus familias y amigos
naveguen con mayor seguridad en el mundo digital:
Verificar identidades. Realizar búsquedas inversas de imágenes, cotejar perfiles y solicitar
videollamadas para confirmar que una persona coincide con sus fotos.
Corroborar información. Buscar fuentes fiables que respalden cualquier información compartida
online para evitar la desinformación.
Gestionar la información personal. Limitar lo que se comparte y ajustar la configuración de
privacidad para restringir el acceso a datos sensibles. Utilizar un verificador de privacidad online
para ayudarte en esta tarea.
Ser cauteloso con la geolocalización. Publicar lugares que se visitan con frecuencia puede
revelar patrones de movimiento. En su lugar, optar por ubicaciones abstractas o no específicas.
Respetar los datos de otros. Antes de compartir información sobre otras personas, obtener
siempre su consentimiento. Trata los datos personales de otros con el mismo nivel de cuidado que
los tuyos.
Mantenerse alerta ante estafas digitales. Estar al tanto de los fraudes online y señales de alerta.
